New Moon

This is the Moon of Beginnings.

The New Moon is often considered to occur at the time of the appearance of the first visible crescent of the Moon, after conjunction with the Sun. This takes place over the western horizon in a brief period between sunset and moonset, and therefore the precise time and even the date of the appearance of the New Moon by this definition will be influenced by the geographical location of the observer. The astronomical New Moon, sometimes known as the dark moon to avoid confusion, occurs by definition at the moment of conjunction in ecliptic longitude with the Sun, when the Moon is invisible from the Earth. This moment is unique and does not depend on location, and under certain circumstances it may be coincident with a solar eclipse.

This is the time to set new goals and review old ones for both the long and short term.

The New Moon relates to the planting of the seeds.

A soothing time of rest and planning for new beginnings; new growth; the beginning or renewing of love; bringing things in; regeneration; give thanks. This is a great time for new beginnings and new projects. Put concepts into motion, become engaged, make long term relationship plans. The waxing Moon is a time of spontaneous and instinctual action. This is also a time when efforts will grow visible.  Changes and transformations may be accepted more calmly than at other phases of the Moon.

New Moon workings can span the actual day of the New Moon to three and a half days later. The Moon's un-illuminated side is facing the Earth. The New Moon is not visible (except during a solar eclipse).

An easy way to recall waxing or waning:

The waxing Moon takes the place of a "D", it is developing to its fullness. The waning Moon is "C", which is condensing and contracting or getting smaller
